Three Generations

Kirkwood’s Sweeper is a third generation business that was founded by Mark Kirkwood. Mark has been personally involved in the vacuum cleaner business since 1971, when he started out helping his father sell Kirby door-to-door by knocking doors to get leads. His father Ron opened the direct sales office in Florence, KY, with a service department in-house. This business quickly evolved into a retail sales and service store, with the door-to-door sales disappearing. The family also added central vacuum systems. In 1973 Mark first learned how to install central vacuum systems at the HP Products factory in Ohio, and has been selling and installing them for over 45 years. While in college at UK in Lexington, Mark worked for a Top 40 Kirby Distributor, and won many sales awards. After working for a while as a CPA, he started a new company called “The Sweeper Shop” in 1982. Mark applied knowledge acquired from his father at Tri-County Sweeper, and from his mentor at Lexington Vacuum Cleaner Co.

Today’s Kirkwood’s Sweeper Shop

Today, Mark’s son Christopher helps run the four locations of Kirkwood’s Sweeper. Kirkwood’s serves the Greater Cincinnati OH and Florence KY areas.
